Sexual Health & Women's Service

Who are we?:

We are a GP Specialist Service run by specially trained female doctors (see left).

We offer a 'One Stop Shop' for: sexual health (men and women), women's health, menopause service, and contraception, all at the same appointment.

What do we offer?:

  • Contraception: Counselling and provision of all methods, including LARC (Implanon, Mirena, Copper Coil and Depo-provera). We also have direct access to sterilisation.
  • STI Service: Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, warts etc. Screening and treatment (including Cryotherapy). Male clients seen too!
  • Well Women Service: Management of period problems, menopause service (including Implants), Premenstrual Syndrome, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, management of vulval conditions, cervical cytology etc.

How to access the service:-

  • You can be referred by: GPs, Practice Nurses, Family Planning staff, Midwives, Health Visitors and School Nurses. Fax the referral form found here to 01482 336399.                                                           
  • You can refer yourself: by 'phoning: 01482 336350.                                                                 
  • Drop-ins: are sometimes available on the day depending on capacity.

                                                                                                                                         

 

Referral criteria/what we provide:

  • All contraceptive methods and advice regarding complicated cases
  • Insertion and removal of: copper coil, Mirena (for contraception, heavy periods or menopause), Implanon
  • Attempted removal of coils with 'lost threads'
  • Sterilisation counselling and direct access to operative list
  • Chlamydia and full STI screening and management (men too!)
  • Menopause advice and management
  • Prementrual Syndrome advice and management
  • Period problems advice and management
  • Persistent genital itch advice and management
  • Abortion advice and referral
  • Infertility advice and referral
